Eva's Tulips 11 x 14 Acrylic on Canvas

I painted these Tulips for my dear friend and co-worker from my office, in celebration of her 35th year working for the company. My friend is originally from her native country of Hungary and I learned that among a few other countries in Europe, Hungary also uses the Tulip as it's National Flower.  Red Tulips are particularly favored, as they represent the nations love for their country. In keeping with this tradition, I thought it appropriate to add two red Tulips in the bunch for interest along with the pinks, yellows and salmon colors of the other ones. She was very surprised and pleased upon receiving this gift of appreciation and it made me happy to be able to paint it for her.

The Alberta Flood Rose Project ~ My Entries 1

These are just a few of my entries to The Alberta Flood Rose Project.

As you know, the City of Calgary and the southern half of Alberta suffered a devastating flood on June 21st, 2013.  The project invites all artists in Alberta to commit to sending in, a small 4"x 4" piece of wall art that depicts the province's floral emblem, The Wild Rose. Each small works of art will then be arranged in groups of 100 and framed together as larger collection pieces. The collection will be on display in various locations throughout the city and then they will be auctioned off and the proceeds going to The Red Cross for flood relief. I had fun painting these little gems and I'm happy to be one of many participating artists in this great project. Hope they will bring lots money to a good cause!

July Sunflowers 8 x 10 Acrylic on Canvas

I'm finally back to one of my most favorite passions in life, Painting!

After doing my house move and relocating to another area of town, I feel I'm now established enough to relax a bit and concentrate on creating my art. I had this painting of Sunflower stalks half finished and waiting by the side before I moved. I had some photographs that I took a few years back, from when I visited an acreage just south of the city. The lady who owns the acreage, often opens up her property to artists, allowing them to sit and paint the beautiful views of the land and the mountains just beyond. On a small section of her property, she plants and maintains many tall stalks of Sunflowers, so that people can stand and walk among them. Her flowers I think are the biggest I've seen and you can see them from the highway as you come closer. I took several photos of the flowers and incorporated them in this painting. This is my sixth 8 x 10 featured flower in the series. Hope you enjoy it and it feels good to be back painting again.

Purple Primroses ~ 10 x 12 Acrylic on Canvas

This flower painting of Primroses, is the fifth in my series. As you look at this painting, you can just imagine yourself standing in front of them, admiring their brilliance as they bask in the warm sun. Looking up, are the distant mountains, an after thought, that I think gives it that special interest. I read that Primrose flowers come in many shapes and colors and apparently, are also edible. They symbolize not being able to live without someone, and so they are a special flower to give as well as plant in gardens. Enjoy.

Alberta Rose ~Double Bloom 10 x 12 Acrylic on Canvas

This Alberta Rose painting is the fourth in a series that I'm working on. I am hoping to accomplish at least eight more small floral paintings like this one, all featuring different types of flowers. It's going to be a challenge to say the least and difficult for me to remain focused on just one subject, but I'll have to give it a try. I hope you like this flower, it's the floral emblem of Alberta, Canada, measuring just a couple of inches and it grows wild just about everywhere. A Real Beauty!
